The Wolli Creek Preservation Society held ‘Tree-Mendous Wolli’ Day in July 2014, which celebrated the beautiful bushland at the western end of the Wolli Creek Valley that is threatened by WestConnex. Have a look at my video about the day.
Newsletter Editor
Since 2011, I have been editing the quarterly Wolli Creek Preservation Society Update, also taking photos, writing articles and now doing the layout in Indesign. This newsletter is emailed to Wolli Creek members and snail-mailed to 30 older members to give them news of recent activities and events in the Valley and the fight against the devastation that Westconnex has been threatening to our bushland.
I’ve always had a strong interest in nature and the environment.
That’s me in the middle of the photo, in my early twenties, taking a welcome rest on Reed’s Peak during a week-long bushwalk in South West Tasmania.
I also rafted down the Franklin River twice, in the summers of 1977 and 78. I studied for a Bachelor of Environmental Science at the University of Tasmania and was an early member of the Tasmanian Wilderness Society, helping to save the Franklin River from flooding by a hydroelectric scheme. On my second trip down the Franklin, I acted as a guide for legendary documentary makers Bob Connolly and Robin Anderson – and so my interest in making films (and flying in helicopters) began.
Several years ago, I edited these videos below for Professor John Merson of the Institute of Environmental Studies at the University of New South Wales.
Arsenic Poisoning in the Ground Water in Bangladesh
Samples of well water in Bangladesh villages are showing high levels of arsenic. Strategies need to be devised to stop poisoning the local population.
Paradise Regained – The Verata Project in Fiji
The local population agrees to study and conserve local fishing grounds to protect their livelihoods for the future.
The Great Unrolling
In late 2010, , I directed and edited a video for the Wolli Creek Preservation Society when they delivered a petition to the NSW Parliament, asking the Labour government to honour its promise to make Wolli Creek Valley, in inner south west Sydney, a Regional Park.
Bushcare and Conservation
I am very involved in looking after the Wolli Creek Valley. I volunteer in bushcare and bat counting and am a committee member of the Wolli Creek Preservation Society.
