Through my company ZedMedia, I have been working as a freelance director and editor for over thirty years. Here are some projects I’ve been working on with my recent or regular clients:
Nine Lanterns, now Kineo, design and build bespoke eLearning solutions for corporates, charities and education. Working with their Senior Instructional Designer Catharine Campbell, I recently edited a series of videos for the KidsMatter Australian Primary Schools Mental Health Initiative. The KidsMatter website includes videos on aspects of children’s health and wellbeing. Last year, I also worked with Catharine to edit videos for the ATAPS Child Mental Health Project, to help experienced mental health professionals to work more effectively with children.
BUZZ Interactive, headed by Marguerite Grey, makes interactive e-learning programs, training resources and media production. We worked together to make videos for the Catholic Education Commission NSW about managing individual Learning Plans. For AITSL, which promotes Professional Standards for Australian Teachers, we made videos as Illustrations of Practice on the Eight Ways of Learning program and on Literacy teaching strategies. For Richmond PRA, I worked with Marguerite to produce videos for an e-learning program for De-escalating Intense Emotions.
I worked with the Blue Mountains World Heritage Institute last year to direct and edit the video Fire Stories: A Lesson in Time, about the devastating Leura Bushfire of 1957. This video was part of a strategy to help present-day residents prepare for the coming summer bush fires. Please see my home page to get more info about the project. We recently won a Keep Australia Beautiful award.
Over the last ten years, I have made many videos for Australia for UNHCR, an Australian charity supporting the UN Refugee Agency. I have made training videos for frontline fundraisers and informative videos for donors about the needs of refugees. Please see my Communications and Training pages for some examples, or visit my YouTube Channel, Laura Zusters ZedMedia. I recently filmed with them in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya and twelve years ago, we filmed in various refugee camps in Ethiopia.
Show Me The Way, fronted by Chris Maguire, supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to complete their secondary studies. In 2010, I worked with Chris to edit videos about Aboriginal mentors. For Chris Maguire Productions, I also edited videos for the Australian Catholic University Clemente program to encourage older and disadvantaged Australians to participate in higher education, in the Older Australians: Valuing Hidden Treasures DVD series.
Change Focus Media produces documentaries, corporate, educational and promotional videos. Working with Rod Freedman and Leslie Seebold, I made several programs about aboriginal health and for the Rural Health Education Foundation. Leslie and I also made “I Can’t Hear You!”, a DVD in eight languages about Otitis Media or ‘glue ear’ in children.
I made many corporate videos for EFEX Productions from 1996 to 2000 and for Three Bears Media.
For Film Australia, from 1986 to 1997, I directed and edited many videos for government clients.
And for the Australian Film Television and Radio School, from 1993 to 1996, I made educational and training videos for students, such as ‘Video Toolbox’ and ‘EDLs: Don’t Be Scared’.
